Tampa to Temporarily Change Water Disinfection Process Starting June 9

TAMPA — The City of Tampa Water Department will temporarily alter its water treatment disinfection process from Monday, June 9, through Monday, June 30, 2025. The routine change is part of the city’s regular maintenance of its drinking water system and will affect customers in Tampa, parts of unincorporated Hillsborough County, and Port Tampa Bay.

During this period, the city will switch from using chloramine to chlorine to disinfect the water supply. This temporary change is a common procedure used to optimize water quality and maintain the distribution system.

Some customers may notice a slight difference in the taste or odor of their tap water, but the city assures residents that the water remains safe to drink and use as normal. The change is not expected to pose any health risks.

Individuals with special concerns — such as kidney dialysis patients or owners of aquatic pets — are encouraged to continue using their current precautions throughout this period.

Updates and more information are available at tampa.gov/ChlorineDisinfection.
