Tampa to Join Nationwide "No Kings" Movement Opposing Donald Trump

TAMPA, Fla. — A nationwide day of protest against rising authoritarianism in the United States will come to Tampa this weekend as part of the “No Kings” movement.

Local activists will gather outside Tampa City Hall on Saturday, June 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. for an event aimed at rejecting President Donald Trump’s “increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption.”

The demonstration is part of a coordinated national mobilization marking Trump’s 79th birthday. Organizers say the date was chosen to spotlight increasingly extreme behavior from the former president and his allies — including threats to deport political opponents, defiance of judicial authority, and enrichment of corporate elites.

“In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings,” the event announcement states, framing the day as a declaration against political strongmen and in favor of democratic principles. “We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it.”

The rally, organized under the banner of No Kings, is one of dozens planned across the country. According to the group’s national website, the effort aims to reclaim national symbols like the American flag and reassert them as belonging to the people, not to any political figure.

Organizers have emphasized that all events are rooted in nonviolent action. Participants are expected to de-escalate tensions and engage peacefully, even when confronted by opposition.
