Florida Diesel Prices Break State Record Again

TAMPA, FL — Florida’s average diesel price climbed to a record $5.86 per gallon Thursday, surpassing the previous high reported earlier this year, according to AAA.

The statewide average rose nearly 5 cents overnight, from $5.81 on Wednesday. Diesel now costs about 18 cents more than one week ago, 57 cents more than one month ago and $2.26 more than at this time last year.

The new mark exceeds the previous $5.74-per-gallon record reported earlier this year. At the time, Donald Trump’s then-new war in Iran caused diesel prices to increase by more than $2 in a matter of weeks amid global oil supply disruptions. Now, as the Iran war threatens to become a long-term quagmire, gas and diesel prices are on the rise again.

In the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area, diesel reached an average of $5.87 per gallon Thursday, a record for the region. Regular gasoline currently averages $4.17 per gallon locally and $4.15 statewide.
