Florida Diesel Prices Hit Record High as Fuel Costs Surge
TAMPA — Florida’s average diesel price reached a record high Tuesday, climbing to $5.736 per gallon, according to AAA data.
The new mark surpasses all previous records for diesel in the state and comes amid a broader spike in fuel costs. Just one day earlier, the statewide diesel average stood at $5.62, and a week ago it was $5.53. A month ago, diesel averaged $3.70 per gallon, reflecting a sharp increase of more than $2 in a matter of weeks.
Gasoline prices are also rising quickly. The statewide average for regular unleaded reached $4.12 per gallon, up from $3.96 just days earlier, according to reporting from the Orlando Sentinel. Prices have climbed more than $1 per gallon since the beginning of March.
The surge is being driven largely by global oil supply disruptions tied to Donald Trump’s war in Iran, which has pushed crude oil prices above $100 per barrel. Analysts say volatility in oil markets is rapidly translating into higher prices at the pump.
Rising diesel costs carry broader economic implications because the fuel is widely used in freight, shipping and delivery. Higher transportation costs are expected to increase prices for consumer goods, groceries and services in the coming weeks.
While seasonal demand and the transition to more expensive summer fuel blends are contributing factors, uncertainty in global oil supply remains the primary driver of the current price spike. It remains unclear if or when prices will stabilize.
