St. Petersburg Installs Pride-Themed Bike Racks Along Central Avenue

ST. PETERSBURG — The City of St. Petersburg has installed 11 Pride-inspired bike racks along Central Avenue and 25th Street, adding a permanent and functional display of LGBTQ pride to one of the city’s most visible corridors.

The racks were installed following the removal of Pride street murals earlier this year, which city officials said was required under state rules. The new bike racks are intended to honor the murals and maintain a visible Pride presence in the area.

The racks were funded through St. Petersburg’s long-standing public bike rack program. The installation was announced in a social media post from the City of St. Petersburg, which noted the project’s location and purpose and identified Mayor Ken Welch as present for the announcement.

The racks now line portions of Central Avenue, a commercial and cultural hub that has long been associated with Pride events and LGBTQ-owned businesses, offering both utility for cyclists and a symbolic replacement for the removed murals.
